Built in 1750, the Matthew Curtiss House has been the home of the Newtown Historical Society since 1970.
In 1974 the Garden Club of Newtown designed a back garden that represented Colonial plantings from the period of 1750 to 1850. The garden was redesigned in 1987 by Rudy Favretti, noted historic landscape architect. Revitalizations of the garden were made again in 2002 and subsequently in 2010.
Today the Garden Club of Newtown continues to cultivate and maintain several of the Society’s gardens including the dooryard garden and the two box gardens on each side of the back door. The Club is proud to support the mission of the Historical Society.
