The origins of the knot garden design date back to the Renaissance and were based on interior décor designs such as carpets, cushions, or other types of textiles. Knot gardens were designed to be viewed from above to showcase the intricate patterns of planted European boxwood.
Established in its original location in 2014 the Library Knot Garden was planted to celebrate the long relationship between the C.H. Booth Library and The Garden Club of Newtown. Originally the boxwood garden served to enhance a space between two benches. However, the death of a stately old maple in 2021 required the relocation of the Library Knot Garden to the front, left side of the library building. This new location continues to provide a welcome outdoor retreat to enjoy a delightful book.
